鈥淗amilton鈥 star Ren茅e Elise Goldsberry brings powerhouse vocals to 私房俱乐部 Sept. 30
When Ren茅e Elise Goldsberry first sang the words 鈥淚 will never be satisfied鈥 as Angelica Schuyler in 鈥淗amilton,鈥 she helped create one of the most memorable characters in one of the most consequential Broadway musicals of a generation.
On Wednesday, Sept. 30, Erie audiences will have the opportunity to experience the Tony and Grammy Award-winning performer in a different setting when she takes the stage at 私房俱乐部 University鈥檚 Mary D鈥橝ngelo Performing Arts Center at 7:30 p.m.
For the 私房俱乐部 Institute for Arts & Culture (MIAC), the evening offers audiences a chance to experience the breadth of Goldsberry鈥檚 artistry beyond the role that made her a Broadway superstar: a dynamic vocalist and storyteller whose career spans theatre, television, film, and an increasingly personal body of music.
A Career Across Stage and Screen
Goldsberry originated the role of Angelica Schuyler in the Broadway phenomenon 鈥淗amilton,鈥 earning the 2016 Tony Award for Best Featured Actress in a Musical and a Grammy Award as part of the show鈥檚 original Broadway cast.
She later reprised the role for the Disney+ filmed version, earning a Primetime Emmy Award nomination and introducing her acclaimed performance to an even wider audience.
But Goldsberry鈥檚 Broadway career extends well beyond 鈥淗amilton.鈥 She has appeared in 鈥淩ent,鈥 鈥淭he Color Purple,鈥 and 鈥淭he Lion King,鈥 as well as David Lindsay-Abaire鈥檚 award-winning play 鈥淕ood People.鈥
Her screen career has been equally wide-ranging. Most recently, she starred as the gloriously self-absorbed Wickie Roy in the Netflix comedy 鈥淕irls5Eva,鈥 earning multiple Critics Choice and Television Critics Association Award nominations. Her credits also include 鈥淎 House of Dynamite,鈥 鈥淎ltered Carbon,鈥 鈥淪he-Hulk,鈥 鈥淭he Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks,鈥 鈥淭he Good Wife,鈥 鈥淭he House with a Clock in its Walls,鈥 鈥淎lbany Road,鈥 and her breakout, two-time Daytime Emmy-nominated role as Evangeline Williamson on 鈥淥ne Life to Live.鈥
A New Musical Chapter
Goldsberry is now introducing audiences to another dimension of her artistry.
Her debut album, 鈥淲ho I Really Am,鈥 features original music written by Goldsberry and draws from soul, blues, pop, folk, and the gospel roots that helped shape her as an artist. The result is a deeply personal collection that allows Goldsberry to tell her own stories in her own voice.
That journey is also at the heart of the acclaimed documentary 鈥淪atisfied,鈥 which follows Goldsberry鈥檚 experience with 鈥淗amilton鈥 alongside the deeply personal terrain of family-building and new motherhood.
A Concert Built to Raise the Roof
Joined by a live band and backup singers, Goldsberry brings the energy of Broadway together with influences from soul, pop, and gospel. Her concerts are known for their high-energy and communal spirit, with Goldsberry鈥檚 powerhouse vocals at the center.
For audiences who discovered Goldsberry through 鈥淗amilton,鈥 the concert offers a chance to hear a familiar voice in an entirely new way.
鈥淩en茅e Elise Goldsberry is an incredibly dynamic performer with a remarkable career spanning Broadway, television, film, and music,鈥 said Dr. Brett D. Johnson, MIAC Artistic Director. 鈥淪he has an extraordinary ability to command a stage and connect with an audience, and I鈥檓 thrilled that we have the opportunity to bring her to 私房俱乐部 University.鈥
