Our Forensic and Biological Anthropology master鈥檚 program offers a distinctive learning experience that bridges advanced academic education, hands-on training, and involvement in real forensic investigations. Students have the opportunity to participate in forensic casework beginning in their very first semester, guided by faculty. Our program prepares students to apply their knowledge in the field while developing the expertise, confidence, and professional ethics that are essential to a career in forensic anthropology.

A strong emphasis on research, scientific methods, and scholarly excellence complements our commitment to professional practice. Throughout the program, students develop the skills necessary to critically evaluate evidence and design rigorous research projects that contribute new knowledge to the field. Each student completes a publishable master鈥檚 thesis. Students are also expected to share their work with the broader scientific community through oral and poster presentations at national or international conferences, fostering professional connections and preparing graduates to become confident researchers, practitioners, and leaders in forensic anthropology.

Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of the Forensic and Biological Anthropology Concentration curriculum in the master of science in Anthropology program, students can:

• Apply archaeological method and theory to forensic contexts
• Analyze and interpret human and faunal skeletal remains
• Develop, through advanced quantitative analysis and science-based research designs
• Communicate scientific findings in written and oral form

Admissions Requirements

Applicants must fulfill the following admissions requirements. To ensure full consideration, all applications and associated documents should be received by the Office of Graduate Admissions no later than our preferred application deadline January 15. Applications received after January 15 may be considered if seats remain in the cohort after the first round of decisions. The small average annual cohort size and the high number of applications make it a highly-selective program.听

• Completed free .
• A bachelor鈥檚 degree in any discipline from an accredited school. Ideal candidates will have a very strong undergraduate record/degree in a field of natural science (e.g. biology, chemistry), anthropology (e.g. forensic anthropology, bioarchaeology, physical anthropology, or archaeology), mathematics, or forensic science.听
• Official transcripts from all post-secondary institutions you鈥檝e attended.
• Current resume/curriculum vitae.
• Letter of intent (500-750 words) outlining the student鈥檚 education and career aspirations as well as any relevant and/or interesting life experience and any additional information the applicant feels would be important to include. This may include any funding or scholarships achieved by the applicant, research projects, internships, professional meetings attended, publications, past careers, special skills, etc.
• Three letters of recommendation from educational or professional contacts or employers who have known the applicant for a substantial amount of time on a professional basis. In addition to the letters, contacts must fill in a graduate recommendation form.
• GRE (General Test) scores are highly recommended but not mandatory. Typically, we require a score of 300 or above on the revised scale.听
• A personal interview. The most qualified candidates will be invited to campus for an interview with the program director. The program requires a high load of group work, so personable, adaptable students are highly preferred.
• International applicants whose records are written in a language other than English must have their documents translated into English and a notarized statement attesting to the accuracy of the translations. International applicants whose primary language is not English must attain a TOEFL score of at least 69 on the Internet-based exam OR an IELTS score of at least 5.8 OR a Duolingo English Test score of no less than 100.

This master鈥檚 program has a distinguished network of alumni that spans the globe, with graduates building successful careers across the fields of forensic anthropology, biological anthropology, medicolegal death investigation, and related disciplines.

Our students may assist with more than 100 forensic cases each year and complete at least one original research project, gaining an exceptional experience that sets them apart as they take the next step in their careers.

Graduates are prepared to contribute to careers in forensic anthropology, forensic pathology, medicolegal death investigation, coroners, and medical examiner systems. We will also prepare you to start a forensic pathology career or pursue your Ph.D., so students at 私房俱乐部 do not simply prepare for a career in forensic anthropology. They begin building that career from the moment they enter the program.
